Eating Cash-Free January 3, 2010
While eating cash-free may sound like a deal, it’s actually the harsh reality faced by many Americans today.
1 in 8 Americans currently receives food stamps, with a growing percentage subsisting on food stamps and zero cash income. That means no paycheck, no welfare, no unemployment, no child support- only $200 in food stamps to keep their family fed.
SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) is essential to helping those who need assistance (1.2 million of whom are children) maintain access to food. Yet, with such small budgets- what kind of food is really available to them?
